Create a Profile
When you launch FTP Explorer for the first time, you'll be asked
whether or not you want sample profiles created. Answer yes to the
prompt.
Once the profiles are created, a window will pop out with some
sample profiles (see it here).
You can either use one of those profiles or you can create your
own. If you have a web site, you'll probably want to create your
own profile so that you can access and manage your web site through
FTP. Here is how to create a profile.
Fill out the following.
-
Profile Name
Type in the name by which you'll refer to your web site.
-
Host Address
This is your web site's FTP address. For example, if
your web site is www.example.com,
your FTP address will most likely be ftp.example.com.
-
Port
Fill this out only if you know which port you are using
to access your FTP account otherwise just leave the box (with
number 21) unchanged. The same applies to Use PASV Mode
and Use Firewall.
-
Login
Type in your handle/name with which you gain access to
your web site. If you don't know your handle, contact your server
administrator.
If your site allows anonymous access, and you wish to access
your site anonymously, select the anonymous box.
-
Password
Type in your password.
If you are accessing your site anonymously, you don't need to
type in a password.
-
Initial Path
Type in the path where your files are located.
-
Attempts
Key in the number of times you'd like FTP Explorer to
retry connection in case the connection attempt fails.
-
Retry Delay
Key in the number of seconds you'd like FTP Explorer
to wait until it retries to connect to the server.
-
Download Path
Type in the directory path where you download your files.
-
Description
Any comments that will help you remember important things
about your profile or account.
-
Add/Save
You can either click on Add or Save to store your profile.
Now, it's time to learn how to use FTP Explorer's features.
