Have you ever noticed web pages that have little content but seem
to have a lot of blank space? If you have, the next thing you might
want to try is to highlight the blank space - you'll be surprised
to find a very long list of keywords that have more or less something
or nothing to do with the content that site provides.
These kind of web pages are called Doorway Pages - their
purpose is to help a web page (and therefore a site) rank high in
Search Engines. There are two ways to design doorway pages: The
wrong way and the right way.
The wrong way
Unfortunately, some web builders design their doorway pages this
way; what they do is cram as many keywords and phrases in these
pages as they can - thus all that blank space.
First of all, cramming so many keywords on a web page will result
in that web page (site) being penalized by Search Engines. Second,
most of that site's audience won't appreciate having to wait the
extra second it will take for their browser to render all that text
(yes, text adds to file size and therefore loading time).
Let's now go ahead and see what it takes to design a good doorway
page.
