Choosing a host for your web
site is one of the most important things you'll do as a web builder.
There are thousands of companies that offer hosting services, the
only problem is finding the right one. Before you sign up for hosting
services with a company, think about the following and then, make
your selection.
Web Server Space
Some companies will offer you 10MB of disk space to host your web
site. This is only good if you are not planning to update your site
frequently. If you are going to update (add new stuff) your site
frequently (daily), then you definitely need more than 10MB of disk
space. A decent amount of space would be between 20MB and 50MB.
Support for Scripts
If your web site is a dynamic one, then you definitely have to
make sure that the hosing service you sign up for, supports/allows
the use of scripts (PerlScript, ASP, etc.).
Tech Support
Tech Support is extremely important. Why? Well, who are you going
to call if the server in which your web site is hosted is down?
Price
Always remember: You get what you pay for.
These days, the prices for hosting services vary and so do the features
they come with. Depending on what you need, you can expect to pay
from as low as $9.95 to thousands of dollars.
Remember, always make your selection based on what your needs are.
If you do, you'll be less likely to be disappointed by the services
you choose.
