Do you have a web site? If
so, does it have a counter?
These days, most personal and some professional web sites, use
counters to keep count of the number of visitors they get.
Even though counters are great at doing their job (that is counting),
there is one question you, as a web builder, should ask yourself,
and that is: Is it really a good idea to use counters on professional
web sites? The answer is no.
As a rule of thumb, you should never use counters on professional
web sites. Why? Because it's considered unprofessional. Just think
how awkward a counter would look on Microsoft's home page.
On the other hand, it's not a bad idea to use counters on personal
web sites. Why? Because they can add a little more life to a web
site. Besides, people expect personal sites to be fun, entertaining,
and filled with neat things...right? Right.
Now that you know the proper use of counters, go ahead and take
a look at the counter resources we found on the web.
