"What does ISP mean?"
Answer
02/25/99
ISP stands for Internet Service Provider. An Internet Service
Provider is a company that offers access to the Internet. There
are thousands of ISPs around the world and hundreds if not thousands
here in the U.S. and even though there are so many of them, only
a few are considered big.
We are talking about ISPs such as America
Online, MSN, AT&T
and CompuServe.
When looking for an ISP ask yourself the following questions and
based on your answers select the best ISP that suits your needs.
-
What are you looking for in an ISP
Are you looking for an ISP that offers a lot of content such
as America Online or do you just need quick access to the Internet
and content is not your main concern.
-
How much are you willing to pay for the service(s)
Prices vary from ISP to ISP. Some will charge you $21.95 for
unlimited access and others will charge you $19.95 for 100 hours
plus $1 for each additional hour.
-
Do you need Web page space
A growing number of people are now realizing that they are allowed
a certain amount of disk space where they can publish their
home page. Some ISPs provide its customers with 10MB of disk
space and others 2MB.
-
How reliable do you want your ISP to be
Some ISPs may have a hard time keeping up with growth therefore
you'll hit busy signals from time to time. Big ISPs such as
AOL used to have that sort of problems but not anymore...I hope.
Remember that in the end it's you the one who should decide what
you need in an ISP.
