TCP/IP stands for Transmission Control Protocol/Internet Protocol.
TCP/IP is an extensive collection of Internet protocol applications
and transport protocols, and includes FTP (file transfer protocol),
SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol, and Telnet (Terminal Emulation).
TCP/IP was developed by the U.S. Department of Defense to link
computers across many kinds of networks, and is the primary protocol
used by the Internet. It was developed in the 1970s.
