"What is a Hit?"

A hit is a request made to the server. For instance, a request
is sent to a server everytime your browser loads an html document
or a graphic.
Most people tend to attribue one hit per web page - that is incorrect!
Since most HTML documents have more than one graphic, the number
of hits per page increases accordingly. In other words, if your
web page has 10 graphics then the number of hits you'll get is 11
- one for the web page (HTML document) and 10 for all ten graphics.
Knowing this is extremely important, especially when you are looking
for a web host. Why? Because most web hosts, will charge you extra
if your site gets too many hits. Let's explain this further.
Let's say that the web host you signed up with allows you to have
1 gig of data transfer per month. If your site (which by the way
has tons of graphics) gets too many hits (the same as the server
getting too many requests), you'll easily use up that 1 gig you
were allowed to use plus more, therefore, your web host will charge
you extra for what ever resources you used above that 1 gig. What's
the solution to this problem? Get a web host that offers Unlimited
Hits!
Remember, getting a lot of hits is always a good thing.
