Affiliate programs or associate/partner programs as many refer to them, are programs that allow you to make money off your web site without the need to sell anything.

If you are looking for a way to make easy money, an affiliate program is one of the ways to go. But before you start signing up with such programs indiscriminately, take a few moments to consider the following.

Evaluate your web site

Take a look at your web site and think about the kinds of products your site's visitors will most likely buy.

Also, consider the impact that such program will have on your site's visitors. Although your site's visitors might not know about your affiliation with a program, they will still see an increase in advertisement in your site (if you sign up with an affiliate program, it is safe to expect that you will advertise the products available through such program). Some people see this (advertisement) as a good thing, others, just hate the idea of being exposed to such advertisement. Remember, always do what's best for your audience.

Do your homework

Now that you know what you'd like to offer in your web site, take time to consider and study your options. Find out what programs are available out there, and find out as much as you can about such programs. A great way to find out if an affiliate program will live up to your expectations, is to get references/comments from both, people who are current members of such program(s) and ex-members.
