Graphics
Graphics just as Navigation
are very important to web designers.
Today people who build their own web sites use graphics indiscriminately.
In order to make a good use of graphics one must know when and
how to use them, this may sound simple but it isn't. When using
graphics keep the following in mind.
-
How big are they?
If the size of your graphic file
is 100K then you have a problem. Using graphics that are too
big in size will compromise the speed at which your web page
loads in your visitor's browser. Think of it, if it takes too
long for your web page to load your site's visitors might get
tired of waiting and decide to move on... if you are trying
to increase traffic to your site then you just accomplished
the opposite.
If size is a problem then you might want to use software that
will allow you to optimize the graphic size without compromising
image quality, try using software like DeBabelizer.
-
How much do you need the
graphics?
If you need to use graphics in your site make sure you don't
over use them. Like I mentioned before, some people use graphics
indiscriminately meaning that they tend to use more graphics
than what they really need. Overusing graphics can tire your
site's visitors because they have to wait for all those graphics
to load before they can navigate your site at ease also, using
too many graphics can leave you no room for content.
In this article we only covered
part of an important aspect of web building and that is design.
In the next article we'll cover another aspect that is just as important
plus we'll talk about some dos and don'ts of web building.
