If
you have been around the net for a while you've probably realized
that just about everyone who is on it has their own web site. Building
web sites has become such an easy task that even kids are able to
build and maintain their own site(s).
There are thousands if not millions
of web sites out there, from personal sites that talk about nothing
but their authors and their hobbies to well thought out web sites
that offer important information designed to help people better
use the net and other resources.
Though many people don't know
it, there is more to building a web site than just being able to
put a nice little picture here and a few paragraphs there. Building
a web site involves knowing how to separate the kid's stuff from
the real thing.
There are many things you have
to keep in mind when building a web site, things such as design
and content. Let's talk about design first.
Web
site Design
Web site design involves much
more than just putting all kinds of stuff in the web page. Let's
list some of the things that web site design involves.
Navigation
Navigation is a big thing for web designers.
Navigation basically refers to how easy a person can "navigate"
through a web site. Let's use this site as an example.
As you can see, this site (Web Builder 101) has a navigation bar
at the top of the page. If you "navigate" through this
site you will notice that no matter where you go (within the site),
the navigation bar will always be at the top. What does this mean
to the person who visits this web site? It means that he or she
will always be able to go where he/she wants to go within this site
without getting lost. For example, if you want to go to the "Tools"
page all you have to do is look at the navigation bar and click
on the word "Tools". You will be able to follow this procedure
from any page in this web site.
Now that you know what "Navigation" means, let's move
on to another important part of web designing...Graphics!
