One of the most difficult tasks in Web Building is
"Link Checking". The reason why this task is difficult
is because a web site may contain thousands of links, therefore
making it almost impossible to check their status. Fortunately though,
FrontPage 98 makes it easy for Web Builders to check the status
of a link.
Hyperlink Status
The Hyperlink Status command, is a neat FP 98 feature
that makes checking the status of a link (or a thousand links) a
breeze!
This command, presents you with a list of all the
links in your site and their status. This list includes both internal
and external hyperlinks and indicates, graphically, whether the
links are broken or not.
To use the Hyperlink Status command, simply click
on the Hyperlink Status button at the left-side of the FrontPage
Explorer window (see
it here). Once all links have been listed, click on any link
or highlight a group of links, click the right mouse button once
and select the Verify (see
it here) option to verify their status.
Once the link is verified, you'll either get a green
colored icon or a red one. The green means that the link is good
and the red one means that the link is broken. The yellow icon means
that the status of the link is unknown (see
it here).
Note that once the links have been verified, you should
upload any changes that have taken place (such as a page that contains
a link that has been updated).
