Cookie and Password
manager
Though not much different from previous versions, the Cookie Manager
in Netscape 6 has one awesome "new feature". This "new
feature" gives you the ability to instruct the browser to remember
your cookie "preferences/permissions" - that is accepting
cookies from sites you specify.
Netscape 6 also gives you the ability to "save" user
names and passwords you use on different Web sites. How does it
work? Well, when submitting a user name and password on a site,
the Password Manager pops up and asks you whether or not you'd like
to save that password for future use. If you choose to let the manager
save that information, the next time you visit the same web site
your user name and password will be automatically filled out - a
neat feature indeed.
There are many other features that have been added to Netscape
6, however we don't want to spoil the fun so we'll let you check
them out yourself ;-)
The Bottom line
Netscape 6 has great potential. The new features and Gecko rendering
engine will make it a must have browser when the finished version
is available.
Netscape 6 Preview Release 1 isn't for everyone. Because this is
a "beta" release, you should use caution when installing/using
the software - it is recommended that you back up your system before
installation.
Here are other things we found when trying out the product.
- The product crashed several times on our systems.
- There were also several JavaScript errors when loading pages
that contained JavaScript.
- Some web pages just took too long to load.
- Java 2 installation crashed the install process.
- No Uninstaller.
